How do I find temporary employment to match my skills and needs?
PSI’s success depends on you, and we work diligently to help you succeed. We’re committed to the success of our temporary employees. In order to ensure the best placement for our employees and our clients, we pursue a multi-faceted approach.
Our evaluation process includes a personal interview with our Director of Temporary Staffing to determine career objectives, work experience, and skill sets. All candidates are asked to take skill assessments in order to evaluate their strengths.
What is a Temp-To-Hire Placement?
A temp-to-hire position (aka contract-to-hire position) is one in which an individual is hired for a temporary period (often about 3 – 6 months). At the end of this period, the employee is eligible for a full-time position.
What is Temporary Placement?
Our clients may need to hire temporary help to cover for an employee due to illness, maternity leave, fluctuating workflow or special project work. Assignments can vary from a few days to several months.
What are Skill Assessments?
We offer free assessment testing to all of our candidates! Skill assessments evaluate a candidate’s working knowledge of software programs needed for specific employment. Each temporary work assignment requires a specific set of skills. Skill assessments help ensure that qualified PSI candidates are sent on work assignments, and that you will be comfortable with the technology required.
This will help our candidates learn new programs and expand their software skills. Online assessments may be taken at the comfort of your own home. There are over 600 standard tests available, 5,000 combinable topics for any job and industry. All results are available to you right after you take the test and is automatically forwarded to PSI as well.
How Can I Improve My Skills?
We offer tutorial training for many of the software programs commonly used today. As a registered PSI candidate, you are welcome to schedule a time to work on tutorials, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. We are dedicated to helping our PSI employees improve their skills.
Does PSI Charge for Candidate Services?
No, our candidates do not pay a fee. All fees are paid by our client companies.
Who is my employer?
If on a temporary, temp-to-hire assignments, PSI is your employer. We are responsible for your wages and accrued vacation benefits, and for your payroll deductions for social security, medicare, unemployment and workers’ compensation insurance.
PSI also provides Direct Placement service, as a direct placement you would be on the payroll of our client.
As a Temporary Employee, How will I be paid?
Temporary employees fill out a weekly time slip. At the end of the week, they are submitted to PSI. This is an important employee’s responsibility. Checks and direct deposits are issued each Friday. Checks may be picked up at our office or mailed to your home, whichever is more convenient for you.
Does PSI Offer Employee Benefits, Vacation and Holiday Pay?
Temporary employees are eligible for vacation and holiday pay. An employee is entitled to holiday pay after the completion of a certain amount of temporary work hours in a 12 month period. After the completion of those certain amount of temporary work hours, an employee is entitled to vacation pay.
Can a Temporary Work Assignment Become Full Time Employment?
We encourage temporary employees to pursue full time job opportunities if they wish and if the opportunity arises.
There is also an employment category called Temp-to-Hire. A “try before you buy” employment arrangement, temp-to-hire offers you and the client an opportunity to develop a working relationship. You are a PSI employee placed on the assignment with the assumption that you will be converted to the client’s payroll within an agreed to time period. If, at any time, you or the client are not satisfied with the arrangement the assignment can be terminated.
